Each year the Tiptree Velo Nifty 50 grows in popularity!!

A ride set up for the Leisure Riders to extend their distance, it covers 50 miles (of course) but has 2 stops to top up on the carbs.

In 2017 we once again started at 8.00am from The Original Factory Shop to venture to Writtle and take refreshments at Wilkins Tea Rooms opposite Writtle Agricultural College. The weather was a bit of hit and miss and although it wasn’t a complete washout like 2016, we had a few light showers on the way out. A nice surprise as we tucked into our coffee and cake was the arrival of another 3 members of the club who couldn’t stand the pace we were setting so made their own way there. Mark G, Mark H and Dr Hass looked fatigued and should have come with us or asked our secret to everlasting youth and fitness!

The second leg of the ride took us to Paper Mill Lock where their famous chocolate and fruit flapjack awaited. This is where the Nifty 50 sorts the men (and women) from the boys (or girls!) Only the strong are able to take on the carbs us hardened rides can!

The last 12 miles was a cruise to the finish where conversation was plentiful with a little blast along Grange Road to finish us off, literally!!

For those wanting to put in a longer ride, this is the one for you, stops, support, chatter and cake!

For 2018 I’ll once again be putting in some evening rides to help you get into shape, watch this space!
